Fire crews rush to rescue poor pregnant cow stuck in window

The animal was found cow-ering in fear. (Sorry.)

HOW’S THIS FOR a moo-ving tale of courage in the face of mortal danger?

UK fire crews had to rescue a pregnant cow that had gotten itself stuck in the window of a World War II pillbox near Skegness last week.

Here’s how they found the poor thing:

And here’s what they saw inside the pillbox.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 10.30am last Thursday morning, where they freed the distressed animal using heavy breaking equipment.

Spencer Creek of the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue team said the case was a bit unusual for them:

Compared to fighting fires this may seem a little bit strange, but because of the county’s rural nature animals do occasionally get into danger. With the cow trapped in the stone window it was actually causing swelling around its neck, so it was important we had the vet there to calm the animal so it wasn’t in distress.

The rescue team finally left the scene at half past five that evening, seven hours later.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have assured everyone that the cow appears to be fine, and is “moving on” from its ordeal. Thank god for that.
